On Thursday, August the 18th, I will drive to Minneapolis (actually St. Paul) after work to catch Amtrak's Empire Builder which departs at 11:15 that night. I will ride the train through the night and most of Friday, arriving at the West Glacier National Park station at 8:30 p.m. The next morning I will take the hiker shuttle to the Two Medicine entrance of the park and make my way back to West Glacier through the backcountry. I will safely pop out seven days later to catch the train back to Minneapolis at 8:15 a.m. The train will arrive at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday morning after which I will attend church at University Lutheran Chapel, attend the Minnesota State Fair, and finally drive five hours back to Cedar Rapids, ready to go to work on Monday. Spoiler: Thing did not go exactly to plan, but still went extremely well.
By myself again as I have not found anyone crazy enough in Iowa to sucker into going along.
For those who are on the fast track, you can just read the executive summary.
A cheap bastard recounts his expenses incurred on this adventure.
I recorded most of my travels using a GPS and posted the the tracks and other neat pictures derived from them.
