I am a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, so when I lived in Minneapolis for the summer I looked for a church to attend. Luckily, University Lutheran Chapel was an LCMS church that served the University of Minnesota and the surrounding community. They were also only about six blocks from where I was living so I was able to easily walk there. Fortunately, this church was also a good confessional and conservative congregation, holding to the teachings of the Bible as interpreted in the LCMS confessions. (My church in the Haute also fit in this category. I have been blessed being able to attend good churches). It was good to attend a church where liberalism and pluralism was not creeping in. Even with LCMS being a traditionally conservative denomination, many churches have strayed from their confessions to something more acceptable to the American public. It was sad when people stray from the word of God to watered down theology, because they are afraid they might offend people.
Being a congregation that heavily served a college, they knew how to attract college students...with food. The church had this deal set up with Rainbow Foods where they got expired bread donated to them that would have been otherwise thrown away. Even though it was expired (only like a day or so) it was still good for eating (especially for a cheap college student). I guess this gives new meaning to "Give us this day our daily bread" (bad attempt at theology joke). They also had Wednesday night Vesper service, with "table talk" and a meal beforehand. So I got a meal and some good theology. Win-win.
They also went on an annual backpacking trip to Montana in the Beartooth mountains, which I was fortunate enough to be able to tag along with them. You can read about my adventures on my Beartooth Mountain Backpacking Page. It was from August 17-24 and a ton of fun. Read about it, or at least look at some of the beautiful scenery.
